Urenui Library Upgrade
Please feel free to view the pictures of Urenui Library upgrade on my Flickr. Carpet has been laid, new shelving, table, chairs and staff desk installed. The heat pump and completion of insulation has resulted in a warm, cosy environment and the rearrangement of furniture more space. On Friday when visiting the library I observed young people using APN, others drawing their own pictures of books they had enjoyed, an elderly couple enjoying the 'new look' and regular customers browsing and reading the paper.

Cinema 5
Have you seen 'The Boy in Striped Pyjamas', on for this week only at Cinema 5. An 'ironic' tale about a young German boy, during World War II, who becomes friends with a Jewish boy his own age. Anymore about the film would give it away, best to see it before reading the book. The film finishes suddenly and the night we went the theatre was silent for 2 minutes before anyone moved - you could hear a pin drop!
Also recommended is 'Defiance' with the lovely Daniel Craig. Another World War II movie about Jewish brothers who try to save as many of their people as possible from being captured and shot or tortured via the gas chambers. If you are interested in historical events and the stories behind them you will enjoy this relatively unknown 'Holocaust' event set in Belarus between 1941 and 1944. The story is based on the book 'Defiance : the Beilskis Partisans' by Nechama Tec. Defiance takes a hard look at and questions whether “an eye for an eye” or “turning the other cheek” is the proper way to respond to humiliation, degradation and murder. Ultimately, you can draw your own conclusions. In the film force is only used when absolutely necessary and suggests this is probably the best course of action.
